Coyotes Shut Out in Road Loss to Sharks

The Arizona Coyotes were shut out for the second straight game, falling to the San Jose Sharks 3-0 on the road Sunday night.

The Sharks got goals from Joel Ward, Tomas Hertl and Joe Pavelski. Hertl scored on a power play when his pass attempt deflected off Arizona defenseman Connor Murphy’s stick and got past goalie Mike Smith.

Arizona had a chance early with a two-man advantage on the power play after center Patrick Marleau was called for high sticking when Justin Braun was still serving a penalty. The Coyotes couldn’t score during those¬†39 seconds, nor in the remaining time of the advantage.

The Coyotes fall to 31-34-7, 11 points trailing for the final wild card spot to Colorado, which won Sunday. With 10 games remaining, Arizona could win nine and have only a 10.6% chance to make the playoffs, according to a statistical simulation by Sports Club Stats.

The next game for Arizona is to host the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday at 8 p.m. MST.
