Coyotes Fall to Flames in 5-2 Rout

The Calgary Flames avoided a five-game season sweep against the Arizona Coyotes with a 5-2 win at Gila River Arena Monday night. Flames rookie Sam Bennett scored twice and Sean Monahan, T.J. Brodie and Joe Colborne also netted goals in a game that was 3-2 after the second period.

Left wing Anthony Duclair had both goals for Arizona, which ends a winning streak after three games. The goals were scored on power plays. He said, “We made some good plays on the power play. You want to capitalize every time we’re not ahead. That’s what we did, but at the same time the game is played 5-on-5 and they did a better job.”

The Coyotes almost tied the game early in the second on a power play goal by  Oliver Ekman-Larsson, but interference was called on Martin Hanzal for falling over Flames goalie Joni Ortio.

Arizona is 34-35-7 for the season and has six games remaining in the season. They visit the Dallas Stars on Thursday.
